“Jack, I think it’s catching up!” Yelled Will as he glanced back at the ship that pursued them. Looking closer, he could see the boat’s features. It had grey sails, and the wood was chipped on random places of the ship. Will could just make out the tarnished gold letters on it- “The Musketeer.”
Jack growled slightly to himself, glancing over his shoulder to the ship, inching its way near them every minute or so. Why were they catching up? The ‘Pearl was the fastest ship in the Caribbean.
And now you’re asking, why is Will on the Black Pearl and what exactly is the ship doing chasing them? Well. Jack had returned to Port Royal to ask Will to come on the voyage with him, and of course, Elizabeth came with them as well. The ship chasing them, however, was a rival ship, and had reasons for being one.
The crew looked worried as they stared at Jack. His eyes seemed to burn with madness and determination, and the crew had seen this expression before- it meant trouble.
And Jack knew why the ship was chasing them, but he kept it to himself. Will was wondering this, about to ask Jack when the ship was near the side of the ‘Pearl instantly. It was like magic how fast it had come up, and Jack looked baffled as he stared at “The Musketeer”. How could it have caught up?
Now the rival ship was exactly parallel to the Black Pearl. Its crew had taken out their blood-stained swords and were laughing screeching laughter. A tall and lanky black figure stepped onto the ‘Pearl, the light shining on him for a moment.
Will could now see the man’s features other than his body outlines. The man had a torn black coat on, along with ragged and dirty black pants. A hat was perched on his head, looking similar to Barbossa’s. The tall man looked over to Jack, walking over with a gleam in his eye.
“Vangelis. What a pleasant surprise. What brings you on my ship?” Jack said, breaking the looming silence as he stared at the man called Vangelis. The rival captain returned the smile back, staring back with icy blue eyes.
“Hello Sparrow. What has it been, five years? I think you know why I am here.” Vangelis replied, eyes glaring over to the crew before setting upon Jack again.
“Oh right, mate. Your treasure that I lost? I can’t say that I have it yet, mate. Five years is a short time to finding a sunken treasure.” Jack said this a bit sarcastically, watching his other rival’s madness build up.
“I gave you five years, and it was a deal. And I do remember you being the one who stole it in the first place, only to dump it into the sea when I came after you, expecting to find it when you sailed back to the spot, eh?” Vangelis said coldly, sill staring at Jack with those icy blue eyes.
“Well I am dishonest. Ask Will, he’ll tell you that.” Jack swung his head over to Will, who was listening and watching the scene unfolding on the ship, which bobbed on the water as the anchor that had been lowered held onto a large rock at the bottom.
Vangelis ignored this. “I told you there would be a punishment, mate. And one you will regret.” Jack’s eyes narrowed, the memory of their heated conversation five years ago flooding into his head.
Will, on the other hand, had crept up onto the higher deck, sword pointed at the rival captain’s back as he stood behind him. He lifted his sword and aimed for Vangelis’s back, only for the captain to turn, his own sword wielded, and hit Will’s sword with such strength it toppled Will over onto the ground.
Jack watched as Vangelis turn back to him, the other captain’s stare piercing into his eyes. Then, Jack couldn’t move or talk. He stayed, Vangelis’s stare seeming to keep him locked to where he was. Jack felt an odd feeling go up his body, and flinched slightly. And then, he feeling was gone. Jack felt odd and dizzy, backing up and hitting the railing, sliding to the floor becoming unconscious.
Will glanced over at Jack before his eyes darted over to the smirking Vangelis, who turned and stepped back onto his ship, his crew backing away from him, as if scared, and turned back to get the ship moving.
"His punishment is coming- you can't see it now, but you will." Were Vangelis’s last words as “The Musketeer” floated off, disappearing into the mist.
Then, all was silence. No one talked or moved, just breathed, thinking to themselves. Will returned his eyes back to Jack, getting up and going to see if there were any injuries.
Nothing. No injuries whatsoever. The crew watched him sullenly, Elizabeth watching with concerned eyes. Will sighed slightly, looking up and beckoning Cotton to help him drag Jack into his cabin.
They both hauled Jack up, and put him on the dirty bed in the captain’s cabin. He still lay unconscious as Will and Cotton left to the lower deck. Vangelis’s words pounded in Will’s mind as he walked over to Elizabeth. "His punishment is coming- you can't see it now, but you will." What had he meant? After leading Elizabeth to their own cabin, the sun had already set. After leaving Elizabeth in the room, he walked slowly upstairs and watched the crew go to their own small rooms.
Will looked up at the empty steering wheel and sighed, pounding up to the higher deck and looking over the Black Pearl. He guessed he crew had completely forgotten about the night watch, probably to shocked to what had just happened.
Will became horribly tired after an hour of standing on the boat, his eyes wandering around the ship in search of any intruders. His eyes began to close, and soon, the man had drifted off into sleep, leaning against the wooden rail.
